Crews Repair Water Main At Central Utah Correctional Facility
Crews worked late into the night on Wednesday, September 2, to repair a water line break at the Central Utah Correctional Facility.
The break was detected around 8 p.m. when water pressure at the facility began to drop. Utah Department of Corrections Facilities staff responded and assessed the situation.
A number of CUCF’s leadership staff also responded to the site to develop contingency plans. Staff quickly assessed the situation and put plans in place to get water delivered to the units for drinking and restroom use. In addition, leaders at the Utah State Correctional Facility and in the UDC’s Administration also prepared to assist if needed.
Just after 11 p.m., crews were able to isolate the problem and reroute water to restore service to CUCF. From there, crews began digging up the break to begin repairs.
With great assistance from the Gunnison City’s maintenance crew – who provided parts, equipment and assistance – the line was repaired before daybreak on Thursday, September 3. Approximately 20 crew members worked on the line from both CUCF and Gunnison.
“I cannot thank the facilities team enough for working through the night in two feet of mud and water to get this fixed before everyone woke up,” said CUCF Warden Aaron Parry, who was at the scene. “Gunnison City was also amazing – this was not their responsibility, but they went above and beyond by providing parts and equipment, and getting down in the hole to help our team fix the issue. It was great teamwork and awesome to see.”
Our thanks to UDC crews for working tirelessly through the night to fix the line, and our deepest appreciation to Gunnison City and its employees for their valuable assistance in repairing the break.
